And babe, don't you know it's a pity? The days can't be like the nights in the summer, in the city.

A few weeks ago I went to a house show at one of the coolest and hippest places in the Boston area. I was kind of disappointed by the amount that I fit in, at least based on how I looked. I had a shaved head and a dress with a big skirt. Justin says there's nothing wrong with fitting into a group/stereotype, but it bugs me. Maybe it's because I don't like the idea of being a part of a group that doesn't have a productive cause. But maybe hipsters do have a cause.

Potential humanitarian causes:
(Note: this is not to mock of hipsters; I'm serious)
-To build community through music
-To appreciate the "little things"
-To promote vegetarianism (to save the environment, prevent animal cruelty, etc.)
-To stop global warming
-To promote the use of bikes (to save the environment, promote a healthy lifestyle, prevent traffic, etc.)

I don't know what else. But I guess there are plenty of things that most hipsters are especially conscientious of, so maybe it is a worthwhile subculture. The thing that bugs me is some people's desire to associate themselves with a culture to boost their self esteem, but that might not be as prominent in the hipster group as I originally thought. I am done with this subject. My conclusion is that I should try to be open minded toward all people, even if they blatantly associate themselves with a culture/subculture.
